The PTC is made of stupid.
The Parents Television Council is apparently accusing MTV of making kiddy porn. Why? Because they’ve cast underage actors in a television show that deals with sex and drug abuse.
After screening one of the episodes of the new American drama Skins, (based of off the award winning E4 show of the same name), PTC President Tim Winter had these painfully idiotic things to say:
“The episode included all manner of foul language, illegal drug use, illegal activity as well as thoroughly pervasive sexual content.”
He’s pissed off about this, and he’s not going to take it. Winter has sent a letter to the U.S. Senate and House Judiciary chairmen as well as the Department of Justice, because apparently, the fact that he didn’t like a TV show is serious business. I had no idea that his opinion was a matter of national importance. What a puffed up little twat. But it gets better! keep reading »
Coping when a partner has lost their job
It’s true, men are losing their jobs with greater frequency than women. However, U.S. News & World Report did a great job of missing some fundamental points in their recent article, Recession Tips for Wives. While it does a good job of pissing off men and women alike with its stereotyping, (hey women, your jobs – or job loss – is not as important or devastating as it is for a man, since you’re really homemakers anyway).
While I’m irritated at the advice offered in the U.S. News & World Report article, mostly because it makes a lot of nasty assumptions about the people involved, (men don’t talk about their feelings, can’t function on their own without a woman to do their thinking for them, and women are judgmental harpies who will withhold sex when no money is coming in), at its root, it does try to pass along some truly valid advice. keep reading »
AskMen: A dark beacon of douchbaggery
Oh, misogyny. We keep vanquishing you, but you keep rearing your ugly head in dark caverns of the internet. Dark, dank caverns like AskMen.com. Why can’t you stay gone? In this post, I review the worst of internet comments from this wacky website that I’m often tempted to think is run by a combination of guys who a) have never actually talked to, much less had sex with, a woman; b) think all women are after his “precious bodily fluids” so that they can extort him for child support; or c) think that “fucking awesome!!!!” and “woooo!” are the be all, end all of exclamations. keep reading »
Carrie Prejean, you beautiful, crazy fool
I don’t generally bother with stuff like this, but I want to point a few things out. After all, everyone’s got an opinion, and I’m no exception. For those of you lucky enough to have no idea who Carrie is or what all of this is about, she’s the former Miss California 2009 beauty queen. Perez Hilton, a gossip blogger, was a judge for the competition and asked Ms. Prejean what her stance on gay marriage was. It should come as no surprise that Hilton, an openly gay man, would be offended by her answer, which was not at all in support of gay rights. Prejean was later fired for “failing to meet contractual obligations.” keep reading »
Where have all the loose women gone?
Stephen Marche at Esquire laments the loss of loose women and what it means for modern men. His article doesn’t really analyze the rise and fall of the loose woman in America, so much as his own dissatisfaction with the homogenized dating scene – the inherent sameness everyone seems to be subscribing to lately. That has nothing inherently to do with women – there are just as many cookie cutter men out there, too. What I like is that he isn’t referring to loose women in general. If you want to find a loose lady, you can and will. He mourns the loss of the intelligent, powerful and sexual woman. The days of Sex and the City are well over, at least if you’re looking for a Samantha. keep reading »
